Writing Without a Degree…

You never know what kind of opportunities God will bring your way that would not be possible without His hand being involved. 

Over six months ago I was talking with an old pastor friend of mine about his newspaper he runs with his wife in Claude, Texas. I jokingly said if he ever needed an article about biblical health and wellness, I’m his gal! 

Two months later I received a message from him asking if I was still willing to write an article and of course I said YES! 

I was beyond excited about this opportunity to write for a newspaper without any type of degree in journalism! I knew it had to be God because writing for a paper without a degree is almost unheard of! 

I have written four articles so far and there seems to be a good interest in the community for a different view on health and wellness. So for the next couple of weeks, I will be sharing with you all the articles I have been writing for The Claude News, enjoy!

An Introduction to Biblical Health and Wellness

I am a huge advocate of living a healthy lifestyle in every area of your life: physical and spiritual.  Believe it or not, our physical lifestyle can have the same foundation as our spiritual lifestyle.

God has designed our spiritual relationship with Him to be an “all in” lifestyle. He says in Revelation 3:16-17, “so, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” If we are not going to live for Him (hot), it would be better for us to not at all (cold). Living just in-between does not sit well with our Savior. He wants us to live every minute of the day for His glory. He wants our relationship with Him to be all in, all day, every day, for the rest of our lives!

So why shouldn’t our physical lifestyle be any different? We can choose to base our physical health and wellness lifestyle off God’s design for our relationship with Him: all day, every day.

Your Creator knows better than anyone else what makes your body function at its peak capacity. He designed our bodies, the bounty of the earth and a wide variety of foods to be the foundation of a long and healthy life. More and more, science is confirming that the Creator’s provisions for mankind’s need for food are still the best choices for ensuring health and quality of life today.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” When we said the salvation prayer, we gave our lives to God when we asked Him to become our Lord and Savior. This involved not only our spiritual bodies but also our physical. God created our physical bodies to be the temple of the Holy Spirit as we see in verse 19. We must keep our physical bodies healthy for whatever God has called us to do for His kingdom, which allows the Holy Spirit to work through us.

Just like our spiritual lives, living a healthy lifestyle will not always be easy but you have to become healthier than where you are now. It’s not going to be just for a week or 3 weeks or even 3 months. This will become an every day, every meal, every snack, every moment kind of thing. You will have to choose to change the current way you live and adapt to a new way for the rest of your life. You can do it. With God all things are possible, including a healthy physical life!
